Bible Verse with Julius

Did we know about these verses before? It really spoke to my heart today as I returned to the Vienna church for the first time in many months:

Acts 27

Paul Sails for Rome

1And when it was decided that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan Cohort named Julius. 2And embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail to the ports along the coast of Asia, we put to sea, accompanied by Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica. 3The next day we put in at Sidon. And Julius treated Paul kindly and gave him leave to go to his friends and be cared for.

It was 60 years ago today that Dad's father died -- on what was then Armistice Day. The date somehow seemed fitting --he was proud of his service in the army, both in the Mexican expedition (c.1912) and in World War I. He was a gentle person, quiet, intelligent, with a sly sense of humor. And he loved his wife and son more than anything else in the world. As you know, he was a weighmaster at the mine in Van Lear, but when it was time for school for Julius he wanted something better for him so they moved to Middletown. He had had one year of business college, so he got a job with the gas & electric company as a clerk. It didn't pay much but it was steady. He would have been so proud of each one of you, and your children. I wish you could have known him.
