Bill Spindler: earthquake & radio interview

I just survived the Great VA Earthquake of 2011. 5.8! My place is 30 miles SW of the epicenter in Mineral... It knocked stuff off shelves, bent up my radio antenna. Roughest one I've been in, and I've felt a few in the Bay Area and Thailand...

I was still shaking long after it stopped! And hey, I was just interviewed by WNKU, the NPR station in Cincinnati and Middletown, I'll be on the news tomorrow!

So maybe you Ohio folks will catch him on the radio tomorrow. (And maybe we can catch it online, via streaming signal from WNKU.)

Kurt

Kurt is in the hospital getting an MRI at St. Lukes. Dad's there with him. The athletic director noticed that one of his pupils was dilated, and the school nurse took his blood pressure, and it was elevated. Kurt called his doctor of infectious diseases, and was told that his meds wouldn't cause that, and instructed him to get to the ER. One of our long family friends (from high school - she's a nurse) took Kurt. I'm sure Mom has called several of you. Please keep Kurt in your prayers again. I love that little guy!

Kurt and Mom update

Kurt is back home and Christy is there to look after him.(Deanna and Christy are my newly adopted sisters!)

Mom was feeling better when I talked to her this evening, and Dad is relieved that he might sleep (finally) the whole night.

Mom is out of Surgery

Dad just called and said Mom is out of surgery and the doctor told him that everything went really well. She'll be able to go home once she wakes up, so she could be there for a couple of days. ;-)  She got a plate and screws and pins?... Dad has the xray of what the doctor did, and said "you'll just have to see it."

She'll be home in a few hours and will have a long road to recovery, especially to play violin again. Thoughts, prayers and well wishes will go along way to help that.

Kurt's better

Heather left me a voicemail that Kurt is out of surgery and is doing much better. They found an abscess that was buried quite deep. They cleaned it out and have pumped even more antibiotics into him. He is, according to Heather, full of piss and vinegar again. Big relief.

Marilyn's surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.

As they said on Hill Street Blues, let's be careful out there.

Kurt and Mom

Kurt's fever spiked again, so he's going to have surgery in an hour. I'm headed that way soon.

I was able to get Mom an ortho appt today at 1:40, and Dad picked up the xrays to take along.

Please keep both in your thoughts and prayers.

Kurt Update

Kurt saw the doctor of infectious diseases this afternoon. They're waiting on the culture to come back to determine what type of staph infection it is. He's currently on vancomycin, but is struggling with fever and nausea. Once the culture comes back they may change the antibiotic. The doctor also told him if his fever spikes as high as it has over the past 2 days (around 104) they'll have to open him up. He's hoping to leave Friday, but unless something changes very soon, that may be optimistic. He'll go home with a picc line for IV antibiotics, and will have a portable vacuum for the drainage. Please keep praying!!!

Kurt's posted an update on himself

Well a little update. They are going to keep me in here for a while. They said hope to have me out by Friday. Temps are soaring (for me at least) to 103.7. They finally gave me motrin for temp early this morning. And fever broke. And then came back. The vacuum (not a Hoover) is sucking out some nasty crap. Yummy. Deanna came and surprised me And took care of me all last night. No Wonder i love her. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. They are all welcomed and wanted.

Kurt's in the hospital with an infection

My friend at work lost his 11 month old granddaughter yesterday to Leukemia. Hug your children/grandchildren tight, and consider donating blood to the children that need it. Also, say a prayer for my brother who is in the hospital fighting an infection from back surgery. It's good that God and I are on speaking terms again.

Let's hope he gets out soon.
